Two years ago today, we launched the MaxInMotion Foundation. As a result of the generosity of our amazing donors, we were able to more than double the number of youth who received support during our second year. In fact, nearly 5,000 scholarships were provided to economically challenged youth during the 2013-2014 season! The recipients of MaxInMotion sports scholarships hail from all over Arizona and participate in competitive soccer, basketball, hockey, and wheelchair basketball and wheelchair power soccer.
We have received hundreds of letters and emails from kids, parents, grandparents and community organizers expressing their immense gratitude for your support through MaxInMotion. Josh Stine, Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix sent us the following message.
“Most of the children we serve at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix live below the poverty line. They don’t have anywhere else to go in their neighborhood after school or during the summer. Our basketball teams motivate a lot of kids to join the Club and stay off of the streets. But for many of our families, the Suns Basketball League at the Club is out of reach. MaxInMotion scholarships made it possible for 255 kids to play league sports at the Club this year. I’ve seen how joining a team can change a child’s life… Thanks to MaxInMotion, we’re able to change hundreds of kids’ lives.”
We have also received incredibly inspiring photographs and videos of your gifts in action. The image below was captured at a MaxInMotion wheelchair basketball clinic.

Kids soar when MaxInMotion scholarships permit them to play competitive basketball!
Momentum continues to build while the sports community communicates that deserving young athletes can apply for aid for the upcoming 2014-15 seasons. Independent program advisors representing some of the largest sports organizations and governing bodies in the state will carefully qualify grant requests. We expect continued growth among applicants adding pressure to our goal of turning down no child. We want each qualified applicant to engage in the character and team building experiences of competitive sports.
I ask for your help so that we may further the MaxInMotion mission, continue to do well for deserving youth in Arizona, and proceed to honor the memory of my late son, Max. Tomorrow would have been his ninth birthday, and it gives all of his family and friends pride to know that we are helping young athletes, whether they are economically or physically challenged.
Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution again this year or making a commitment to do so. You may donate on our website, MaxInMotion.org, where you will also find very important information about the Foundation. Importantly, MaxInMotion grants 99.9% of its annual budget directly to supporting deserving young athletes. The Foundation has no paid staff or fundraising costs. Rather, we rely only on volunteers to support our effort.
Whether or not you are in a position to make a contribution, please know that your original support has been critical to our success. For this we are forever grateful.
Warmly,
Jonah Shacknai
